The meaning of the neighbourhood in the past, was being perceived as related to permanence, familiarity and locality. Nowadays, the crisis of neighbourhood is obvious and is associated to the abortion of autonomy and to the weakness in defining its role and character, among the new social- spatial and technological data.
By approaching the meaning of neighbourhood, we would argue that it constitutes a transitive element, in-between the house and the city, mostly by making them function as a unity. It appears as an integral part of the town, or as an autonomous system of the city's uneven network. It develops as a hybrid space, between the physical and the manmade, the real and the digital. The emerging urban space of digital information and communication flows is interacting with "real" urban places and this process provokes changes in all aspects of life as well as in the relation between the man and the physical setting of the neighbourhood.
