The cultural landscape of Dokos, as a means to approach its locality, appears as the result of successive cultural inscriptions on its natural landscape.

The specific signification of the locus through its participation in cultural networks at different historical periods, as each one inscribed itself on the material of the locus (the natural landscape) as distinct material traces, gives the landscape of Dokos an intense narrative quality. This quality is enhanced by the absence of permanent human presence or activity from the Byzantine period until now, as well as by the nature of the landscape, the barren and rocky soil which preserved the material remnants of the past.
